UNESID’s Innovation Committee

UNESID’s Innovation Committee held several face-to-face and videoconference meetings in 2010 to address several matters related to its activities as Spain’s representative in Eurofer, ESTEP and RFCS, working on Spain’s behalf in the internal organisation of the European steel manufacturing sector’s research funds (SAG and TGS), and fostering the participation of all the actors in PLATEA, amongst other issues.

As the axis of coordination for the sector’s innovation activities, UNESID will be responsible for introducing Spain’s technology centres into the European-wide Network of Steel Research Centres (RIES) and, following the convening of INNFLUYE 2010, it is responsible for supporting the Spanish Steel Technology Platform, PLATEA, through the Technical Secretariat.

In sundry innovation activities, UNESID organised the 6th European Slag Conference, EUROSLAG 2010, which has already been mentioned elsewhere in this document, and championed several projects presented to programmes both in Spain and in Europe.

In particular, mention may be made of the Ciclope Project on sustainability in construction; the Self-sufficient Biomimetic Island (IBA), for developing building solutions in the marine environment; and MetroMetal, a project for standardising radioactivity measurements in casting tests, which is headed by CIEMAT within the European Network of Metrology Institutes.
