Introduction

In 2009, the Board of Directors decided to introduce a change in the management structure of these activities in UNESID. This led to the creation of the Innovation Committee, formed exclusively of member companies, whereas, previously, the Technology Committee included the participation of other institutions, which prevented discussions from being held exclusively between members.

In 2009, UNESID, as a result of a proposal from the CDTI (Centre for Technological and Industrial Development), set up MET-INNOVA, the Unit for International Innovation in the Metal sector, to promote innovation in the widest sense. The International Innovation Units (UIIs) are entities devised by the CDTI to promote a greater involvement of the metal sector in the projects of the EU’s VII Framework Programme.

Also in 2009, PLATEA, The Spanish Steel Technology Platform, reviewed the areas of R&D+i activity in the steel sector, which was severely affected by the economic crisis. It also published the Strategic Agenda and a book on the implementation in recent years of projects in line with those of PLATEA.
